Grand
Union Village, Southall
This 20 hectare brownfield site,
a former contractor's and aggregates
storage depot with a frontage on the Grand Union
Canal, is being transformed into a mixed-use ‘urban
village’ of some 1000 houses and apartments,
10,000m² of office floorspace, a boating marina
on the canal basin, new public places, community
facilities
and parkland. It is intended as a model of sustainable
urban development.
We advised the development team
on the traffic, transportation and contaminated land
aspects of the project, devised earthworks, drainage
and services strategies and designed the highway,
footpath and cycleway networks.
The full potential of this prime
regeneration site was unlocked
by a notable package of sustainable transport measures which we successfully
negotiated with the Boroughs of Ealing and Hillingdon, including a car share
club and new bus routes, a package which was subsequently selected by ODPM
as a best practice Case Study.
