Tavy
Bridge, Thamesmead
A typical product of the 1960s,
Tavy Bridge is an outworn public housing development
with its existing homes and local community facilities
in poor condition and much redundant open space.
It is a particularly demanding urban regeneration
project.
Transforming this environment into
an attractive and viable setting for the community
calls for a bold approach which involves a total
redevelopment of the site, to be phased over a 10-year
construction period, trebling the number of homes
to 930 and delivering a new health centre, library
and offices. Engineering challenges include the mitigation
of flood risk and the efficient phasing of services.
We are providing the development
team with traffic, transportation, highways and services
advice for the project, followed by detailed design,
as well as contributing to the environmental statement.
Central to the successful regeneration
of Tavy Bridge is very close and ongoing consultation
with the existing residents and local authority partners
to ensure continuity of services and to minimise
disruption as construction proceeds. This community
focus is reflected in our own responsive engineering
approach.
